Programs and Strategic Partnerships
The Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) entity organized under the State of Louisiana. As the largest state funder of legal aid, the LBF supports service organizations throughout Louisiana that provide free, civil legal representation to the indigent, law-related education to the public and administration of justice projects. We serve as the fiscal administrator for the State of Louisiana Child in Need of Care Program which provides free legal representation to all children in foster care and for the Louisiana Supreme Court Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts Program. In addition to awarding grants, the LBF supports a variety of statewide, volunteer programs & projects and strategic partnerships that enhance our mission and objectives.
Access to Justice Commission
The Commission, with representatives from the Louisiana Supreme Court, LSBA, LBF and other stakeholders, is a statewide coordinated approach to assure continuity of policy and purpose in the collaboration between the private bar, the courts, and the civil justice community so as to further the goal of assuring that Louisianans, regardless of the economic circumstance, have access to the justice system.
Child in Need of Care (CINC)
The CINC program provides free legal representation to Louisiana children in foster care in partnership with the Louisiana legal service corporations, the Louisiana Department of Child and Family Services and the Louisiana Supreme Court. As administrator, the LBF provides governance and oversight of the funds and ensures program and financial compliance.
Fellows Class Project
The Fellows Class Project is an opportunity to perform pro bono service in an alternative way while working with colleagues who joined LBF during the calendar year.
Fellows Program
The Louisiana Bar Foundation membership, referred to as Fellows, consists of judges, lawyers and academia whose professional, public and private lives demonstrate their commitment to ensuring access to the justice system for all.
Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA)
A IOLTA program is a unique partnership between the banking and legal communities that enhances the LBF's ability to meet the growing need for free civil legal services to the poor.
Kids' Chance Scholarship Program
Kids' Chance provides higher education scholarships to children of Louisiana workers killed or permanently disabled.
Law Signature Schools Courtroom Project
The Law Signature Schools Courtroom Project is a bricks and mortar building program with Louisiana Center for Law and Civic Education designated Law Signature Schools.
Louisiana Appleseed
Louisiana Appleseed is part of a network of public interest law centers in the U.S. and Mexico dedicated to building a just society through legal, legislative and institutional structural reform. Louisiana Appleseed asks top private practice lawyers, corporate counsel, law schools, civic leaders and other professionals to commit pro bono time to address problems at their root causes, producing practical, systemic solutions to effect change.
Lagniappe Law Lab
Lagniappe Law Lab is a new technology-focused resource serving Louisiana’s civil justice system. The Lab provides in-house service delivery consulting to civil legal aid organizations, and facilitates the design, development, and implementation of new legal aid technology projects. It will also provide a home for and maintain existing technology programs, such as the Louisiana Civil Legal Navigator. Experimenting with new technology, design, and operations principles, Lagniappe Law Lab aims to help service providers increase their impact on our community, increasing Access to Justice for all.
Oral History Project
The LBF Education Committee produces a continuing series of oral histories. The series is a part of the Committee's plans to systematically broaden the LBF's work to preserve the history, culture and flavor of Louisiana Law.
Pelican Center for Children and Families
The Pelican Center for Children and Families is a nonprofit organization that serves as a comprehensive education and training resource to support effective practice among legal and other professionals serving Louisiana's most vulnerable children and families.
Scholar in Residence
During a two year term, an LBF selected scholar produces an academic work.
Speak Out for Justice! Focus on Civil Legal Aid
The LBF plans to simultaneously engage multiple content creators to produce short articles, podcasts, videos, commercials, PSA etc. that are current and relevant to the topic of civil legal aid.
Secret Santa
Needy children are paired with local attorneys who buy presents from a child's holiday wish list.
