In civil proceedings, access to an attorney is not guaranteed. In Louisiana, we currently have an abundance of citizens that qualify for civil legal aid, and a shortage of civil legal aid attorneys to assist them in court. There are also significant gaps in legal education and awareness. Poverty and other systemic barriers can result in a tiered system where justice is not as blind as we’d like.
Working with 70+ partner organizations, we focus on preserving access to civil legal aid and education for communities that need it most.
LBF Fellows are critical for increasing access to civil legal aid, legal education, and legal awareness throughout the state.
Our Fellows serve as ambassadors to the community and support the continued delivery of our grants and programs. That’s only part of what membership offers.
As an LBF Fellow, you can:
$240 a year
The General Fellowship level is for working lawyers interested in promoting access and equity throughout the local justice system.
$120 a year
This discounted Community Supporter Fellowship legel is for the general public, retired legal professionals, and young lawyers getting started in the industry.
$150 a year*
The Judicial Fellowship level is for a full-time federal or state judge, magistrate, commissioner, administrative law judge, or hearing officer.
*Louisiana Supreme Court clarified in 2015, the LBF Judicial Fellow dues may be paid through a judge’s judicial expense fund. If you have questions regarding your dues payment, please contact us at 504-561-1046.

Being part of an organization that unites legal professionals to enhance our profession, uplift our communities, and enrich ourselves is truly rewarding.
