Sewell Named LBF Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer

The Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) is pleased to announce the appointment of Laura Cangelosi Sewell as its Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer. “We are thrilled to appoint Laura Cangelosi Sewell as our Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer,” said LBF President Hon. John Davidson (ret.), “Laura’s extensive experience and proven leadership within the Foundation make her the ideal person to guide us forward. We are confident in her ability to continue advancing our mission and expanding our impact.”

Laura has been an integral part of the Louisiana Bar Foundation for 19 years. She began her tenure with the Foundation as Development Director in 2005, and over the years, her roles have evolved significantly. In 2020, Laura was appointed Associate Executive Director, and she subsequently advanced to Chief Operations Officer/Associate Executive Director. Her journey through various leadership positions has equipped her with deep insights and a strategic vision for the Foundation.

Laura is a seasoned fundraiser with a robust background in corporate fundraising, state contracts, and nonprofit management. Her expertise and dedication have significantly contributed to the Foundation’s success and its mission to support civil legal aid across Louisiana.

As Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer, Laura will lead the LBF in its role as the largest state funder of civil legal aid in Louisiana. The LBF also administers the Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts Program (IOLTA) on behalf of the Louisiana Supreme Court, and under Laura’s leadership, the Foundation will continue to champion access to justice for Louisiana’s most vulnerable citizens.

“I am honored and excited to step into this new role,” said Laura Cangelosi Sewell. “I look forward to working with our dedicated team and partners to further our mission and drive meaningful change. Together, we will build on the Foundation’s achievements and continue to make a positive impact in our community.”
