Under the direction of our 2022-23 President Alan G. Brackett, the Louisiana Bar Foundation (LBF) has created the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. The DEI Committee is co-chaired by board members John Nickelson and Adrienne White. Brackett stated, “The Louisiana Bar Foundation has always been focused on Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. Funding civil legal aid has always been about caring for those who may otherwise be uncared for, which is disproportionately people of color. However, while the LBF has always supported diverse organizations and citizens, and strives to ensure its leadership reflects the diversity of Louisiana, it has become clear that we always need to be intentional in our processes and actions to ensure we remain true to our mission and goals. We need to apply a DEI lens to the Foundation’s work, including the infrastructure, leadership, membership, and grants making.”
The DEI Committee works to build capacity and identify strategy through research, learning and analysis of (1) internal protocols and processes, (2) leadership and volunteer engagement practices and (3) client community advocacy and support of efforts.
The LBF DEI Committee will host an in-person four-part training workshop series concurrent with board events. The sessions will be led and presented by Krystal Allen of K. Allen Consulting, a global education and management consulting firm that provides customized workshops for nonprofits, specializing in the principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
