Grantee Award for Excellence in Service and Programming

The Grantee Award for Excellence in Service and Programming recognizes a grantee for an innovative, imaginative program and/or public service in the legal arena. The award emphasizes creativity of the idea, efficiency of execution, outcomes of the project or program and its ability to be duplicated by other service programs and to be proven flexible enough to change course as emerging needs arise.

2003 Grantee Award for Excellence in Service and Programming

New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation

New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation was chosen as the recipient of the Louisiana Bar Foundation's 2003 Grantee Excellence in Service and Programming Award. The legal service provider was selected for recognition of services provided to their community, promoting awareness and understanding of the legal system and assisting with the administration of justice while serving as an exemplary grantee in carrying out the mission of the Louisiana Bar Foundation.

New Orleans Legal Assistance Corporation has been a grantee of the Louisiana Bar Foundation since 1989. The organization is the primary legal services program for 300,000 poor persons in metropolitan New Orleans. Since their establishment in 1967, they have handled more than 150,000 legal problems for the poor in the areas of health, housing, family, domestic violence, public benefits and consumer law.

The Grantee Excellence in Service and Programming Award was presented at the Annual Fellows Breakfast held on June 12, 2003. The breakfast was held in conjunction with the 62nd Annual Meeting of the Louisiana State Bar Association at the Sandestin Beach & Golf Resort in Destin, Florida. Executive Director Mark Moreau was in attendance at the meeting and received the award on behalf of the organization.

The Louisiana Bar Foundation is a charitable organization existing to preserve, honor and improve our system of justice by funding, developing or otherwise promoting efforts which enhance the legal profession, increase public understanding of the legal system and advance the reality of equal justice under the law. Since 1989, the Foundation has awarded $24.3 million in grants to Louisiana nonprofit organizations which provide legal services, law-related education and assist in the administration of justice.
