New Infinity Fund Supports Louisiana Bar Foundation's Work to Increase Access to Civil Legal Aid

Funds will help ensure sustainability and support impact of the state’s largest funder of civil legal aid.

The Louisiana Bar Foundation is pleased to announce the first donation in the amount of $25,000 to the newly established Infinity Fund, which is dedicated to supporting LBF’s work in funding civil legal aid and promoting access to justice. The increasing need for civil legal aid and services is expected to further escalate amid the pressures of the pandemic.

The first generous donation was made by LBF Fellow and board member Zebulon M. Winstead, of Alexandria.

“I have made this donation in large part to honor Eastern District of Louisiana Judge Eldon E. Fallon and the other leaders who have come before me in the civil legal aid endeavor,” Winstead said.  “They have brought to light the need to create a fund to pay the expenses of the LBF so that even more Louisiana citizens can have access to civil legal services.”

The Infinity Fund was created to provide long term support for operations and administrative expenses of LBF, a trusted community partner and funding steward. The funds will help ensure that the LBF is able to meet staffing and operational expenses, in good economic times and in bad.

“More Louisianans are facing challenges in which access to civil legal services is essential to keeping them safe and protecting their rights,” said Harry J. (Skip) Philips, Jr., LBF President. “Support for our organization will allow us to continue our work as demand and need grows across our communities. As the state’s largest funder of civil legal aid, we are committed to ensuring we make the greatest impact and that all Louisianans, regardless of their background and income level, have access to the civil legal aid services they need.”

The LBF is a non-profit 501 (c) (3) entity organized under the State of Louisiana. As the largest state funder of civil legal aid, we partner with a trusted network of more than 70 organizations that lead community driven efforts to help families facing non-criminal, civil legal challenges. Since 1989, the LBF has distributed more than $94 million to hundreds of Louisiana non-profit organizations to meet these goals. We serve as the fiscal administrator for the State of Louisiana Child in Need of Care Program which provides free legal representation to all children in foster care and for the Louisiana Supreme Court Interest on Lawyers' Trust Accounts Program. Through grants, we assist women, children, elderly, people with disabilities, newly unemployed, those facing loss of their homes, disaster victims, veterans and military families, and many others by providing services that go to the very heart of the health, safety, and security of many of our citizens and their families.

Our goal is to make sure that all Louisianans, regardless of their background or income level, have access to civil legal services that they need.
