Funding Categories   

Building Capital Development Grants
Annual grants, up to $25,000, are made to grantees for the purchase of an office building or renovation.

Community Partnership Panel Grants
Panels evaluate funding proposals for non-profit 501c3 entities in their community that provide administration of justice services.

Disaster Relief and Recovery Grants
As funds are available, a task force identifies needs and recommends funding to the Board for recovery and rebuilding of the legal infrastructure.

Juvenile Justice Grants
Awarded to non-profit 501c3 entities that assist with the administration of juvenile justice.  Teen Courts, Court Appointed Special Advocates, and other juvenile legal programs qualify for this funding.

Law Related Education Grants
Awarded to non-profit 501c3 entities for law-related educational programs benefiting children and/or the public.

Legal Assistance to the Poor Grants
Awarded to non-profit 501c3 entities to provide free direct legal services to indigent clients. Legal Service corporations, Pro Bono Projects, Domestic Violence Programs and Other/Specialized Legal Services qualify for funding.

Loan Repayment Assistance Program
One-year loans, up to $5,000 are made to new or current public interest attorneys employed by LBF grantees. Participants are eligible for five years of funding.

New Funding Initiatives

Public Interest Attorney and Staff Supplemental Pay

The Public Interest Attorney and Staff Supplemental Pay Program provides grants that will supplement the pay of full-time, non-contract staff members working at organizations receiving 2008 funding in the Legal Assistance to the Poor funding category.

Summer Fellowships

The Summer Fellowships Program provides grants to the four Legal Services Corporation offices in Louisiana to allow them to offer paid summer internships to law students attending law school in Louisiana.
