Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellows Hired

Caroline Johnson and Amanda Rogers began serving as the LBF Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Legal Fellows in August 2008. Caroline and Amanda work to connect law students with underserved clients, increase law student participation in pro bono work and further law student interest in public interest legal careers. This program matches law student volunteers with clients based on student interests and skills. Law students gain valuable legal experience and first hand knowledge of how the public interest sector operates while providing invaluable services to underserved communities.

Caroline earned a Juris Doctor and Bachelor in Civil Law from Louisiana State University Paul M. Hebert Law Center in May 2008. As a law student Caroline volunteered with the Pro Bono Project in New Orleans primarily working with succession cases. In 2007-2008 she served as the Pro Bono Chair of LSU Law Center's Public Interest Law Society. Caroline has received two awards for outstanding pro bono service as a law student: the Louisiana State Bar Association Law Student Award in 2008 and the Equal Justice Works AmeriCorps Outstanding Law Student Award in 2006.

Amanda earned a Juris Doctor from Brooklyn Law School in May 2008. While at Brooklyn Law School, she was admitted to their Moot Court Honor Society as both a competitor and coach. During Summer 2008, she was named a Brooklyn Law School Post Graduate Public Service Fellow. Through this grant, she was able to work with Lone Star Legal Aid representing the indigent community in eviction proceedings, child custody disputes, divorce proceedings, and child support modifications in the Houston area.
